In Ayurveda, hair is considered to be derived from the bone tissue. Disturbances in the metabolism of this tissue can affect the quality of the hair. To some extent, the health of your hair depends on your body metabolism. Hair loss or hair fall is a much-discussed topic in medical science. Allopathy and Ayurveda seem to have different opinions when it comes to hair fall issues.

The major causes of hair loss are nutritional defects, hormonal, stress and medication related problems. According to Ayurveda, there is a constituent in our body calledthe ‘Pitta’, the concentration of which gets increased due to a couple of reasons like, excessive heat and, over intake of junk food, meat, alcohol and coffee. Consuming too much greasy and oily food can also aggravate the amount of pitta. Excessive pitta in one’s body can lead to several ailments including hair fall. Replacing oily, spicy food items with herbs like Asparagus and green leafy vegetables can reduce hair loss. Other causes of hair fall could be chronic illness, thyroid imbalance and persistent use of certain drugs.

Ayurveda supports the use of herbs for hair loss treatments. Take a look at some of the herbal methods that prove beneficial in reducing hair loss.
